April 1st’s premiere of Journey Through Cascadia was no joke: attendants ranging from students, teachers, and friends all find the work to be a well-conceived, touching story. Now, other musicians can hear it, and learn to perform it!
A full audience filled the Pepsico Recital Hall for the premiere of Guthrie’s Journey Through Cascadia on Wednesday. People acclaimed its “conversations between the voice and piano,” its transformation to the “beautiful vocal melodies,” and other aspects of the work.
In the past few days, a soprano and I recorded Journey Through Cascadia. Recordings should be uploaded shortly. Also, do not forget that April 1st is the new premiere date for the song cycle!

The date and venue has been set for the entire “Journey Through Cascadia” premiere. It will be March 18th at 3pm at Pepsico Recital Hall, in Fort Worth, TX. Come and enjoy this latest masterpiece setting the poetry of beloved Americans like Edgar Allan Poe, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and others!

Ian Guthrie recently accepted the invitation to the Charlotte New Music Festival, where he’ll write a work for the New York ensemble “Loadband” and another work while at the festival. In addition, he will work closely with many of the festival’s performers and composition faculty.
Guthrie is also in the process of scheduling premieres of many new works over the next few months, so check in often as updates are posted!
The four movements from “Journey Through Cascadia” made a big impact live and online last Sunday. It will be performed in its entirety next Spring. Stay tuned for more information as dates and other important information become available! Recordings of the songs should also be available shortly in their usual place under “Works”.

The Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI) Region VI recently announced Ian Guthrie’s song “A Dream Within a Dream” as a winning composition for their annual conference. SCI Region VI includes the states of Arkansas, Kansa, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. You can listen to the work under the “Vocal” section of his Works page.
In addition, they selected Guthrie’s topic “Why Music Business Matters,” which he will present at the conference.
Tonight, Ian Guthrie will be performing his newest piano work, “Wy’east”, on a young composers’ concert.
