On February 14th, the Northwest Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dr. Spain opened their concert with Guthrie’s Salsa: The Allurement. While the work has been criticized for being underdeveloped and perhaps uninteresting, the public loved the work. Apparently Ian Guthrie had Ravel’s Bolero paradox: while the composer created something that “contained no music”, the audience declares it a “masterpiece.”
