Over the past week, Ian Evans Guthrie has just received three awards in both composition and piano. The first was 3rd prize in the international Great Composers Competition, Masters of Piano Sonata. This was based on his exceptional performance of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata no. 32 in C minor, op. 111.
The second was 1st prize in the Washington State MTNA Award in Composition. Like last year, he now advances to the Regional round, and if he wins that, he will again advance to the National round.
Third, of which Guthrie just informed me today: he has been announced one of 27 student semifinalists in The American Prize, Chamber Music category for his Journey Through Cascadia (it looks like the journey still continues!), and now advances to the finalist stage.
