Ian Guthrie has been studying in Europe for the past several summers. Where is he studying this summer: Vienna – the New York City of Europe. He has also just received his second ASCAP Plus Award.
During Feb. 4th through the 6th, UNT students will be performing many recent works, including my “Dark Forest,” which was premiered on Nov. 6th by Orion Canter (baritone) and Xinshuang Jin (piano). Arizona State University and the SCI Region VII Conference will present Guthrie’s “A Dream Within a Dream” among other works next Saturday (Oct. 14th), and you can listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ohzkqsr6_0. It will be live at 2pm Arizona time (2pm PDT, 4pm CDT, 5pm EDT).

Guthrie recently won 1st prize in the international Arcady Composition Competition with “Song of the Wind.” It will be performed sometime in October (tentatively the 14th) in Ontario. In addition to his recent American Prize award, Guthrie has also been invited to the 2017 Valencia International Performance Academy and Festival (VIPA Festival), where he will compose an extended work for flutist Erik Drescher and study with the composition faculty, including Pulitzer Prize winning composer Melinda Wagner.
Ian Evans Guthrie has been awarded 2nd place in the American Prize (Chamber Music) – Student Division for his now-familiar Journey Through Cascadia.
